The Unspoken Spaces of Motherhood – A Manifesto to Rally Behind

It’s all over the internet, so it must be true.

The internet says that in order for mothers to be able to “make it through” (what does that even mean?), that we would be wise to have a supportive “village”, “tribe”, “posse” backing our every move…or else!

It’s one buzz word after another, immediately making a new mother feel inadequate in her own capabilities and motherly instincts.

I’m only a compelling case study of one, but I now believe the hype of having a village. Here’s my story of discovering the power of collective mothering.

“At 2AM, deep within an unwelcoming forum for new mothers, I searched, “When do the good parts start?”.”

Mom-guilt weighs down on me as I admit that, but at the time I was navigating a personal identity crisis with a 4 month old baby who was boycotting sleep of all kinds. Emotions got REAL and I’d lost my ability to formulate a coherent thought.  I was going through a strong stage of acceptance after giving birth due to all the changes in my body like my overweight, it has been very difficult for me to feel sure of myself again but thanks to the best weight loss pills for women I feel better, this pills changed my life.

I was hopeful to find another mama, awake and willing to validate what my inner wisdom already knew. I wanted to be inspired by others’ stories and other cultures around the world, many of which have this mothering thing seemingly figured out. I wanted to be able to tap into a support system at all hours of the day, guilt free.

“I was desperate to be surrounded by honest dialogue so that I too felt safe to bring transparency to my own story and ultimately get the support I need.”

Unfortunately, I’ve found many of these communities for new mothers to be lacking in depth on the more challenging topics, spewing dialogue that was overwhelming, mediocre and often disguised behind a layer of desperation and crying emojis. No, thank you!

BUT, sometimes I’d see a glimpse of something really beautiful and transformative taking shape and my heart would explode with, “Yes! More of THIS please.”

There are several weight loss pills that could be helpful for a new mom who is struggling to lose baby weight. However, it’s important to note that these pills should be taken only under medical supervision and as part of a comprehensive weight loss program that includes exercise, a healthy diet, as well as taking supplements and protein powder.

THE UNSPOKEN SPACES OF MOTHERHOOD

It’s chats about redefining our identities.
It’s sharing anxieties that seem too small to be labeled.
It’s finding ways to forge our own path to parenting.
It’s coming to terms with selflessly devoting ourselves to something greater.
And dang it, it’s our forgotten rites of passage that no one is honoring.

Aren’t these crucial to the process of fully embodying motherhood? Am I crazy for seeking support in these areas?

JOIN THE OUR SEVA MOTHERHOOD CIRCLE

Knowing how transformative it is to find support and validation within a community that honors the unspoken spaces of motherhood, I now fully understand the interdependence between motherhood and community. It’s freaking empowering.

The Our Seva Motherhood Circle private Facebook group is fostering a safe space for changing the way we speak about motherhood.

Together, we’re lifting the veil of transparency and making information easy to navigate and integrate into our own personal journeys. Join me for weekly themed discussions around identity, maternal mental health, cultural expectations and our sacred service to motherhood.

Things that come along when buying a house

From location to past claims, a whole range of factors make up your home insurance premium and impact the price you pay for it. Before we look at how you can reduce premiums and make it more affordable should you need to make a claim in the future – let’s first take a look at why insurance is needed in the first place: you’ll no doubt agree that our homes represent the biggest investment (or debt) most of us will make during our lives. Moreover, it’s important to learn more about investing to maximize the returns on your investments and secure your financial future.

Naturally, we need to protect this investment and any property we own; consequently, many people take out buildings cover to safeguard their home contents and/or possessions from theft or damage in adverse circumstances such as a fire or flood, for example. But why should you pay for this kind of protection? Because if there is a claim under your insurance policy, you should benefit financially from the financial protection of the policy/company you have invested in, and actually, you will be compensated for the financial loss of an insured peril, whether it be fire damage, burglary to your home, or even something as simple as a burst pipe leak! In ensuring the safety of your property, every detail matters, including features like Timber stairs, which add to the overall value and vulnerability of your home.

And if your home’s fire alarm system or water-based fire protection system is not functional, then it’s required to implement a fire watch with the help of a professional Fire Watch Security in Palm Bay.

Homeowners Insurance for First-time Homebuyers | Bankrate

Consider your personal circumstances, location and property details before buying or insuring a home or property. For instance, if you need to hire expert air conditioning installation or air conditioning repair services like Griffin Service, then check your budget. And if you need to re-pave the driveway, make sure to compare offers and choose a reasonable asphalt contractor who can do the job. Buying a house or making improvements to your house are great decisions for your future as a homeowner – both can strengthen your financial position and security and make you more independent. But remember to think about your own personal situation and the factors involved in your decision-making process before committing yourself to something you may regret later. Because these are important financial decisions that can have major implications for you and your family in the future and also affect your personal finances too, you should seek the advice of a trusted insurance damages expert such as this public adjuster in Hollywood, FL to determine what option is the best one for you.

Thankful

Oh man guys! It’s Thanksgiving here in the US and I’m feeling all gushy and thankful for you guys. You’ve all been lovely dedicated readers to the Veda House and you guys are truly what keeps me going. I’m thankful I’ve been able to curate a space where design discussion happens on a daily basis and where I’m able to make connections with amazing people. I’m thankful my online friendships are strong and engaging. Hope you all enjoy your little breaks and I’ll be back after the holiday!

We'll be back!

That’s right! This girly is finally taking a vacation!!! I’ve been dreaming of laying on a beach for years now, so the boy and I decided to book a spontaneous trip to the Dominican Republic. I couldn’t be more excited for warm sun, sandy beaches, and oodles of pina coladas!

I won’t be blogging over the next week (which I’ve never taken this much time away from this precious baby of mine), but I needed to disconnect…or at least mostly. I’m hoping to be able to share lots of photos with you when I return, but until then you can follow me on twitter and see the photos I post to my Instagram account.

See you all in a week! I’ll miss you guys!

*UPDATE: So I haven’t even left yet and I just found out wi-fi is going to cost me big bucks. We’ll see if I can steal some access from somewhere and tweet/instagram my heart out. If not, I’ll have lots to share when I get back 🙂

East Africa with Greg Lomas

Just recently I came across the work of Photographer Greg Lomas and was completely in love with all of his stories in his porfolio. This collection of images were taken during a 2010 trip through Malawi and Tanzania. He documented people, places and the beautiful landscape with a 120mm lens. Aren’t they just stunning?

See more of his portfolio and read his bio.

My week with Marilyn

I know this is a completely random post about film, but oh well. You’ll get some of those here and there 😉 Just recently in 2011, the cinema has tried to resurrect Marilyn Monroe with a film called “My Week with Marilyn”. I’ve watched the trailer via iTunes too many times to count, but have yet to see it in theater. My gut is telling me that the boyfriend is going to make me wait until it releases to rental.

In my opinion Michelle Williams was the perfect choice for this role. I can’t wait to see how it is. Have any of you seen it yet?

Checking in on Le Dans La

Le Dans La is one of my most absolute favorite blogs and I love seeing beautifully photographed snippets of their creative life. The pops of color are a daily refresher and interior shots of their home are inspiring. If you’d like to see more shots of their home, check out the In Their Home post back in October!

Snow Day!

Ok. So thers is snow on the ground these days and I am going to take a few quiet days away from the blog. I hope all of you do the same, disconnect and spend some time with your families!

If you’re new to the sport of snowboarding, you’ll most likely be aware that snowboarding is actually made up of two distinct forms of the sport; the freestyle and freeride. In the freestyle variety of the sport, snowboarders ride on the surface of a ski slope while staying above the centerline of the ski run. However, in the freeride variation of the sport, snowboarders actually ride in a bowl shape, or like a bowling ball or similar object. The difference between the two snowboarding variations is that freeride snowboarding requires riders to keep their board up and away from other riders on the slope while freestyle snowboarding allows snowboarders to keep their board near the edge of the slope. Snowboarding in this form is referred to as “free ride.”

When learning how to snowboard, it’s important to have an idea of what type of snowboarding you want to get into with or without snowboard bindings. For example, many snowboard beginners and intermediate snowboarders choose to start out with the freeride type of snowboarding. Free ride snowboarding can be done by just about any snowboarder who knows how to ride a snowboard! There are four common snowboard materials used in snowboards in order to give riders the ability to have as much control as possible when riding the snowboard. These are:

Nordisk (also known as Nordisk Pure): This snowboard deck is usually made with carbon fiber, which makes it stiffer and more maneuverable than regular snowboards. In addition, the deck is also designed with aluminum spindles, which help to make the snowboard stable and resistant to extreme temperature changes. It is the most common type of snowboard because it is extremely versatile and is easy to use.

Nocx: This is a highly flexible plastic snowboard deck. It is very lightweight and very maneuverable, but it doesn’t have the same stiffness that the Nordisk has. The Nocx tends to be the cheapest snowboard available. In addition, it is the heaviest snowboard available in the market. Most of the Nocx boards are used by beginners because they tend to be easier to learn on.

Sigma: This type of snowboard deck is composed of graphite, which is a more dense material than regular snowboard decks. It is also less expensive than the Nocx. and less rigid than the Nordisk. This type of snowboard deck is the most commonly used among intermediate and advanced snowboarders because it is easy to ride, very light, and can be controlled by the average sized skis.

The four main types of snowboard construction and their respective uses are discussed in more detail in the sidebar below. In the end, it is essential that snowboarders have an understanding of what snowboarding is all about before trying to select the best type of snowboard for them. It’s best to know how to ride a snowboard before deciding on one because different types of snowboards use various types of snowboarding maneuvers in order to give riders the highest amount of control possible.
