Portraits of Gramps

Have you guys seen this personal project by photographer Hilda Grahnat? I saw these snapshots of the project on her blog and instantly thought how this kind of object would make an amazing gift for any family member you love. It’s incredibly personal to the creators and extremely beautiful to any on-looker.  I think this piece is a perfect combination of illustration, pattern, typography, book binding, and of course…subject matter.

Hop over to her blog to see a few more images of the project and to read about how the project started between Hilda and a few of her friends.

I wanted to take a look at the latest lookbook for Ruche, which is absolutely gorgeous. There is no text in this book, so photography is key for communication in this case … but guess what? They handled it so well. One of the most interesting parts I found was the placement of imagery. In most cases, they would have a zoomed out view of an outfit on one side, with a matching photograph on the other. Now, this matching photograph could either be a detailed shot or an image that’s completely different, but share similar colors. Try it out sometime! Mixing and matching can be completely refreshing + fun to do.

I really have no words for this branding/interior design project except for WOW and Yum. Oh…and why can’t this be here in St. Louis??

Lucy's Glasshouse

I’m pretty sure my mother would just die to have this…my dad too…and me, really! I’m dreaming of warmer days with lots of greenery surrounding me. I can’t wait for the smell of fresh greens, citrus, flower buds, and even the smell of summer rain. Let’s just skip this winter stuff, and even the spring stuff, and hope right to the HOT & SUNNY summers that make me one happy camper.

Lucy and Stephen Marr own this beauty and I envy it with all my heart. Look at how it looks pieced together with salvaged window panes. So great.

mustard, gray and black…oh my

No matter how many times I try to step outside of my color lover box, I always circle back to this lovely color combination. It’s beyond perfect and never seems to grow old. I’m sure you can tell from my blog design that this combo is a keeper.

I think it might be the mix of a color with a nod to earlier times (the mustard was a real winner in the 50’s) paired with the classics of black and gray. ohh and look how great baby pink looks in that lineup! Maybe I’m just making up stuff, but I love it!

8 Track Update

What do you add to your daily routine to get you through the day? For me it’s a must to put on some headphone and crank up the tunes. Some days that means listening to the same song over and over, and other days that means hoping around to different songs as my mood changes.

So where do I find the playlists I listen to? It’s usually either my personal Grooveshark playlists or 8 tracks from some of my favorite bloggers. The 4 above have been in this week’s rotation.

Olivia Larrain Heiremans Photos

Aren’t these just beautiful? I’ve been enjoying tracking down photographers who capture the beauty of everyday things. Capturing morning breakfast, walks in the park, or lazy afternoons seems like an easy task, but as an amateur photographer myself, I find it challenging. I find myself only wanting to capture the perfect compositions, the best moments, the ones I feel are worth capturing…but in reality my photos never feel as real as these.

Something to work one. Not all photos have to be perfect to be beautiful.

Behind the Lens of Evaforeva

I recently came across the blog called My Eva Foreva, a blog with great personality and unique film photo shots. I’ve fallen in love with a frequent feature on her blog called Film Weekend where she simply takes snapshots of her weekend…on a film format camera. The shots are simple and extremely beautiful.

If you’re looking for a new blog to crush on, stop by and say hi to Eva. She’s one talented gal with some killer DIY ideas and a lovely Vintage Shop called Gold Antlers.
